Why Coffee is Good for You

Tuesday, October 12, 2010
Did you know that coffee not only tastes good ( and the average American downed 416 eight ounce cups of coffee in 2009) but may be doing you good?  Coffee drinkers ( whether caffeinated of decaff) are less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's Disease and dementia.  Not only that but coffee drinkers also have fewer cases of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems and strokes.  Now this is not to say that coffee necessarily prevents these conditions - because people who drink coffee may also have other habits that are of benefit to their health too. Frank Hu - epidemiology professor at Harvard University, found that of more than 193,000 people, those who said they drank more than six or seven cups daily were 35% less likely to have type 2 diabetes.
So what is it about coffee that has these beneficial effects?  Well, we know that coffee has a strong antioxidant capacity and contains minerals such as magnesium and chromium..
