Coffee pods are pre-packed coffee beans in their own filter. The coffee in a coffee pod has been freshly roast, ground to a perfect degree for optimum flavor then tamped to the correct pressure and then encapsulated in a paper container. There is an ideal size for the coffee pod, which was invented more than ten years ago by Illy Caffe. The advantage of using a coffee pod is that you get the right amount of coffee in the right place at the right time, with no mess and the used pods can even be used on your garden as fertilizer. It is therefore no surprise that many companies have produced coffee machines specifically to use coffee pods. The standard size is 44mm with 6.8-7 grams of coffee per coffee pod. But that’s not all.
